Dorset web design company, DSM Design designed a brand new website for Common Assault bike shop in Ringwood. Cool, youthful and slightly dirty was our brief, see what we did to get the job done.

The Company

Common assault is an independent cycle shop just off the High Street in Ringwood. They offer a wide selection of mountain bikes from some of the very best manufacturers in the world.

Nobody understands the passion of mountain biking more than Common Assault rider and owner Mike Cherrett. His passion and dedication and passion to the sport combined with his technical knowledge make Common Assault one of the only Mountain Bike specialists in the Dorset and New Forest area.

The Problem

We approached Common Assault back in September as the existing web design company was not delivering to the client’s expectations. Mike showed us a few web design concepts which he felt were in line with his corporate expectations. He wanted a web site that simply looked good and functioned well. He wanted to target the young adult male and female audiences in the local area with a fresh an innovative design that attracts users to visit the shop or call the phone number.

The site needed a media page for images and video of the shop riders and an area to display certain bikes and brands available. Common Assault also wanted to add social network links to the various networks such as Face book, YouTube and Twitter which will be automatically syndicated from the news feeds.

The website also needs a charity events section to promote all local events that the bike shop is involved with.

The Solution

We quickly designed a multi levelled theme that incorporated a variety of features that help add depth and dynamism into the “feel” of the site. First impressions from the client were “impressive” and with a few minor adjustments we arrived at a mutual agreement on the design.

The site was built in Enhance 2 CMS and utilises a range of dynamic features from news readers and feeds, event pages and plug-ins throughout the website. We tweaked the design to incorporate a bit more of a stained and dirty feel with textures and layers as well as rust effects on the social network icons. We also added sticky tape and stains to the main images on each page to give the site a rustic feel throughout.

The site is still undergoing a few extra design developments to deliver an even more enhanced experience for users. Mike’s feedback has been very positive towards the level of quality in design and customer care. We are looking forward to rolling out the new updates very shortly as we finish a few design elements.
